If You Notice These Oral Cancer Signs, You Need to Come In and See UsWhen it comes to overcoming cancer, one of the keys is early detection. That is nice to say, but that does not mean you know how to do it. There are things to do and things to watch for that can help you detect possible oral cancer. If you see these signs, you need to know what the next step is.

Looking for the Signs
There are two ways to look for the signs of oral cancer. One is just through looking in the mirror every day. The second is by going through a more thorough self-exam. During the self-exam you need to look for signs.

The signs can involve looking for something specific, but they also can involve looking for things that change. That is why it is important to perform regular self-exams to spot changes in your oral health. There are specific things to look for that could signal a problem with oral cancer.

These include:

•  Persistent mouth sore. Sores in the mouth happen, but they heal with a little time. One that does not heal is a sign of a possible bigger problem.
•  Pain. Pain that does not go away is a sign that something is not right in the mouth.
•  Lumps. Lumps in the tongue or cheek need more investigation.
•  White or red patches. These can happen on the gums, the tongue or cheek.
•  Difficulty swallowing. The longer this goes on, the bigger the problem.
•  Difficulty chewing. When this continues, it is a sign of possible oral cancer.
•  Weight loss. This can mean many things, incluading oral cancer.
•  Persistent bad breath - This is a sign of several problems with oral health.

Some people may see these or some other signs of oral cancer and panic. They may assume that one of these signs means that they have oral cancer.

This is not always right. These are signs that there may be a problem and that there is a need for more investigation. They mean it is time to come to our offices and check with our dental professionals.
