Relieving Pain on the Roof of Your Mouth Following Grafts |
Posted on 5/13/2018 by Tessa Smith-Greisch |
Grafts can cause problems when they are taken from the top of the mouth. Everything that you put in your mouth can touch the top of your mouth and cause issues. This is why it is important to follow all of the instructions that are given to you from our oral surgeons.
They want to make sure that the area heals properly and through these instructions, you can allow the area to heal faster with fewer complications.
Ways to Relieve Pain on the Roof of Your MouthMedications are often prescribed after you have had a graft done in your mouth. Make sure to stay on top of taking these medications so you can better manage your pain level.
Adding in over the counter medications can also provide you with the additional pain reliever that you need. However, speak to us prior to taking anything so we can ensure that the over the counter drugs to not have an adverse effect due to the prescribed medication you are taking.
After any procedure, it is a good idea to have a family member or loved one with you to listen to your aftercare instructions. Due to sedation, and instances of information overload, it is common for patients to miss or forget parts of their recovery instructions, such as various methods of pain management.
A prime example of this is when people forget the importance of rotating ice/cold packs to minimize swelling and dull pain. If a few days, your pain is still difficult to manage, or your pain level has increased, contact our office immediately. We will schedule an appointment for you to come in and speak with us as soon as possible to get to the bottom of your pain problem.
