Some will refer to it as gum grafting while others soft tissue grafting, they mean the same thing at the end of the day. Now when is soft tissue grafting necessary? To begin with, soft tissue grafting is a surgical operation that corrects receding gums. With that knowledge, you will come across people whose gums are protruding, tampering with their aesthetics and smile. This is one of the cases where it is necessary to go for a soft tissue operation. Your dentist or periodontist will advise you to undergo soft tissue surgery if the following happens.

Exposed roots

Do your teeth appear longer? Not in the case of growth but just the appearance. It is the role of the gum to protect your teeth. In case they are feeling a bit more sensitive to temperature and exposed roots, then it is the right time to see a periodontist. You may be a beneficiary of gum grafting.

Thin, Translucent gums

If your gums are overly thin and weak, your surgeon may recommend gum grafting. This is because the gums may not provide the support needed by your teeth to stay healthy. This may lead to the fragility of your gums and it may also feel uncomfortable than when you have healthy gums.

Visible Cementum

The cementum is the natural material covering your teeth's roots. The moment you can see the cementum, this means that your roots are exposed and you need to see a dentist. The cementum is often yellow and it covers the crown of the teeth and it is easily seen if exposed. The color difference is noticeable at the bottom of your teeth.

Why is it necessary

A gum graft has various benefits that include reduced tooth decay, reduced tooth sensitivity, healthy gums, bone loss prevention, and a better and more confident smile. If you feel that any of the above necessities are lacking or need a consultation about the above causes, our periodontists are ready to serve you at any time. Book your appointment with us today.
